West Meade Waterfall

In 2013, Tennessee Parks and Greenways Foundation (TennGreen) purchased the West Meade Waterfall, a hidden gem located off Jocelyn Hollow. TennGreen successfully raised private funds to complete the transaction and in 2014 the land was sold at 50% cost to Metro Nashville.

The waterfall is located at the end of Hathaway Ct, off Jocelyn Hollow Rd.

Belle Forest Cave

If you are up for a hike, a trail at the top of the West Meade Waterfall goes to the Belle Forest Cave and on to Bellevue, or to the Cumberland River in the other direction. For more info: Radnor to River

What is behind those funny street names??

Some of the street names are indecipherable, but some have historic origins.  Here are some examples.

Harding Pike

Named After Gen. Harding

In 1883, Gen. William G. Harding gave his daughter, Mary, 2600 acres of his farm, Belle Meade. The same year, Mary and her husband, U. S. Senator Howell E. Jackson, bought a 131-acre farm adjoining that tract. They built the West Meade Mansion at a cost of $14,905.  The house remained in the family until 1944 when the farm was sold and subdivided.

Hillwood

Donated by H.G. Hill

Originally much of the land here belonged to Horace G. Hill.  His son, H. G. Hill, Jr. inherited it in 1942 and started developing and donated land to community projects. As a result, the elementary school and high school are named after his family, as well as the Hillwood Country Club and Hillwood Presbyterian Church.

Greeley

The G in H.G. Hill

That’s right – Horace Greeley Hill. H. G. Hill purchased

Robin Hill

No, its not a bird

Just guessing, but probably a grand-daughter or great-grand-daughter of H. G. Hill.

Hickory Valley

H. G. Hill was born in Hickory Valley in White County, TN.
