Blasting Update – March 31, 2026

In Fall 2025, I was expec ted to give a Legislative Briefing, to be hosted by Sen. Heidi Campbell and Rep. Caleb Hemmer. After attempting to get a date for the briefing sev eral times, I was then told that there would not be an availability, and my hosts decided NOT to do a briefing. This briefing would show to the Tennessee Legislature that the blasting does indeed have a potential negative effect on West Nashville residents’ homes.

In February, Thom Druffel and I visited the Fire Marshall’s office and some members of the Commerce and Insurance Department. I informed them that I thought they were responsible for the deferment, leading to the dismissal, of any legislation that threatened to change the regulations. Although they did not deny that this was true, the said that they are just responsible for ensuring that the regulations are heeded by blasting companies.

They did offer these suggestions:

  • Continue to work with the legislature to modify the regulations
  • Gather info, through the FOIA, of all complaints of blasting in Tennessee, and find legislators that can team up in support of our fight
  • Consider a class-action lawsuit

Our next task is to a) get the data from the Fire Marshall’s office of all complaints, b) work with the candidates that are vying for Caleb Hemmer’s position as District 59 Rep, and try to get their support on this effort, and c) continue to push for a legislative briefing.

ANOTHER BIG BLAST TODAY, APRIL 1, 2026! THIS HAS GOT TO STOP!!!
