Environmental Overlay

Below is a DRAFT description of the West Meade Environmental Overlay District (EO) that we are sponsoring. Essentially, the EO references multiple landslides in the 2010 floods and before, and warns residents that the alluvial soil in our neighborhood presents a potential problem for those properties over 700 feet above the limestone shelves. The intent of the EO is to arrest unnecessary building in those areas, thus avoiding future landslides, unnecessary tree removal, which has a negative impact on the stability of the soil, and detrimental environmental impact to the higher elevations of West Meade and neighboring areas.

The Ordinance that is being proposed gives the Why, What, Where, When and How of the overlay. The Who is in the West Meade Environmental Overlay District Map (WHICH IS STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION). You can view it below, or at https://westmeadeoverlay.org.
