Quarry Blasting

Vulcan Materials has been blasting at the River Road location for over 40 years. Has the blasting had an impact on the homes in West Meade and surrounding neighborhoods? Are the cracks and settling of foundations within the last 3-5 years a result of years of cumulative blasting?  WMNA thinks so, and is setting out to prove it.

WMNA officers have had discussions with Vulcan management, The State Fire Marshal’s office, and State Legislature Representatives Caleb Hemmer and Bo Mitchell. We have also talked with geologists and explosives experts at UofM. Johns Hopkins and the Tennessee Geological Survey.

Currently, WMNA is working with Rep Hemmer to fund a research project to analyze the potentiality of damage from blasting to homes surrounding the the 2 quarries in West Nashville.

How can you help? Stay up to date with WMNA activities on your behalf, be supportive and prepared to speak out about your own personal experience. Continue to let us know when you are impacted by blasting. Only by speaking as a negatively impacted community can we facilitate change. Vulcan knows this, and would probably prefer that we remain a disconnected group of upset residents.

Update: The blast on April 19, 2024 was, according to many neighbors, the largest ever.  Reports of glass rattling and homes shaking were reported. The blast was even felt by residents in Bellevue and as far away as the Cheatham County line!
